USDA Biobased Certification
United States Department of Agriculture BioPreferred program:
The purpose of the USDA BioPreferred® program is to promote the increased purchase and use of biobased products. The program is expected to promote economic development, creating new jobs and providing new markets for farm commodities. To the extent that the BioPreferred® program achieves its purpose, the increased purchase of biobased products will also be expected to reduce petroleum consumption, increase the use of renewable resources, better manage the carbon cycle, and may contribute to reducing adverse environmental and health impacts.
The USDA BioPreferred® program has two major initiatives:
1. Product Labeling: USDA certifies and awards labels to qualifying products to increase consumer recognition of biobased products.
2. Federal Procurement Preference: USDA designates categories of biobased products that are afforded preference by Federal agencies when making purchasing decisions.
Certified Product Labeling: Products indicated by this symbol are USDA Certified Biobased Products.
This electronic catalog of biobased products is published by USDA’s BioPreferred® program to identify products that are eligible for preferred Federal purchasing, and to identify products whose biobased content has been independently laboratory tested and third-party certified. Company and/or product inclusion in this catalog in no way represents any actual, implied or inferred endorsement by USDA. It is suggested that Federal Government purchasers, commercial buyers, and consumers use the same care in investigating the companies listed as you would with other suppliers before signing contracts or making product purchases.
Building Performance Institute
Building Performance Institute Inc. (“BPI”)develops standards for energy efficiency retrofit work using an open, transparent, consensus-based process built on sound building science. From these standards, BPI has developed professional credentials for individuals, accreditation for contracting companies –including quality assurance programs– that help raise the bar in home performance contracting.
Energy Star is a joint program of the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Energy that helps consumers identify energy-efficient products.Program Integrity: To maintain consumer trust and improve the oversight of ENERGY STAR certified products, homes, and commercial facilities, EPA has implemented third–party certification requirements and testing.
Products: To earn the label, ENERGY STAR products must be third-party certified based on testing in EPA-recognized labs. In addition to up-front testing, a percentage of all ENERGY STAR products are subject to “off–the–shelf” verification testing each year. The goal of this testing is to ensure that changes or variations in the manufacturing process do not undermine a product’s qualification with ENERGY STAR requirements.
Maryland Green Registry Member
Mold Medics is a member of the Maryland Green Registry. Governor Martin O’Malley created Smart, Green & Growing in 2008 to foster a smarter, greener, more sustainable future for Maryland families. The Initiative brings together state agencies, local governments, businesses and citizens to revitalize communities, improve transit, create green jobs, address climate change, conserve energy, preserve land, and restore the Chesapeake Bay.
“The Maryland Green Registry owes its success to businesses that are adopting efficient, environmentally sound practices that benefit the bottom line,” said Laura Armstrong, coordinator of the Maryland Green Registry. “The annual cumulative results demonstrate the clear economic and environmental benefits of adopting even simple measures to improve efficiency and use resources wisely.”
